Newcomer Centre of Peel requires a Supply LINC Instructor.

Newcomer Centre of Peel (the Centre) is a settlement agency providing effective integration of newcomer families. Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), the Centre operates orientation, language/skills, labour market access and community connection programs for all our clients.

Job Summary:

The instructor provides the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada in accordance with the LINC Curriculum guidelines and Canadian Language Benchmarks.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver CLB-appropriate instructions
  • Plan and adapt the teaching style to various learning styles
  • Obtain and develop teaching materials to meet student needs
  • Provide instruction geared to meet different proficiency levels within the class
  • Develop and maintain a positive and anti-biased classroom environment where learners feel welcome
  • Maintain clear and accurate academic and daily attendance student records
  • Use a variety of ESL computer software in a classroom
  • Liaise with other LINC and ELT instructors as well as NCP staff to ensure learners’ exposure to services offered by the NCP
  • Attend PD sessions and other meetings possibly outside regular teaching hours/schedule as required

Qualifications:

  • University Degree
  • TESL Ontario Certification
  • Minimum one year experience as adult ESL/LINC instructor
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of adult education & the needs of new Canadians
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian language benchmarks
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Sensitive to issues and needs of newcomers
  • Tactful and encouraging while assisting learner
  • Take pride and initiative in work to ensure a high standard of classroom instruction
  • Be goal-oriented & highly-organized
  • Able to effectively manage time to assist multiple students/instructors while working on outside classroom tasks

LINC Home Study Instructor

The Centre for Education and Training is a not for profit, progressive corporation located in Mississauga. They enhance the self sufficiency and effectiveness of individuals and organizations by offering customized education, training and career resource solutions.

The LINC Home Study instructor will facilitate all regular instructional activities for students (online and correspondence) in the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a learning plan for each new student within 2 weeks of first contact
  • Create student portfolios and maintain samples of student work (for review by program supervisors)
  • Provide weekly oral instruction for students
  • Complete quarterly progress reports for each learner as per guidelines
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and other professional development activities
  • Assign regular homework to students
  • Provide regular feedback on student work to the office
  • Teach higher and lower level students as determined by client demand

Qualifications:

  • Relevant post secondary education or equivalent
  • TESL Certification from an accredited institution
  • TESL Ontario Certificate (current)
  • Proficiency using the Internet for researching and creating teaching materials
  • Proficiency using MS Office products, MS Word in particular
  • Good knowledge of technology-assisted learning and its applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience in a LINC/ESL class and a thorough understanding of the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the National Placement grid.

This is a part-time position.
